How To Measure Corrugated Boxes

Box Dimensions

Boxes are always measured by their inside dimensions. The dimensions are always stated in the sequence of length, width and depth. The length is the longer dimension of the open face (flap opening) and the width is the smaller. The depth is always the dimension that’s perpendicular to the length and width. End opening or end loading boxes also follow the same guidelines. The depth is still the dimension that’s perpendicular to the length and width.

Measuring a Box

Corrugated boxes are always specified by their interior volume. So the dimensions used are the score to score inside dimensions. Always measure from center line of one score to center line of another score. Don’t measure panels that include the glue or tape joint. The joint will throw off your measurements. Pick a different panel to measure.
